Very popular at BAU 2025
ZinCo, the green roof system producer, gave a hugely impressive presentation at BAU 2025 of the many facets of green roofs. Creative buildings around the world provide the most impressive proof of the endless possibilities: from the ski slope on an incinerator in Copenhagen to the parkland on the roof of the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Centre in Athens.
ZinCo has been offering well-engineered and innovative solutions for all things related to green roofs – from standard systems to bespoke, building-specific solutions. Planners and architects were introduced to the entire range of high-performance systems under the theme ENERGY – WATER – NATURE at the busy stand.
Without the need to vie for space, solar roofs can be combined with green roofs to generate energy. They can even be combined at the same time with retention spacers to maximise water retention, which therefore protects the sewer system from flooding. ZinCo offers suitable variations for individual buildings and interconnected solutions for neighbourhoods – under the heading “cascade-style drainage” – for both new and existing buildings.
The new system build-up Sponge City Roof should be mentioned in addition to the Stormwater Management Roof and the Urban Climate Roof. The stand-out feature of this build-up is that part of the provisionally stored water is available permanently for the plants until it has fully evaporated.
ZinCo also demonstrated at BAU how the level of biodiversity can be increased, for example, by using the plant community Bee Pasture.
The important thing going forward is to convert roofs to valuable green and blue infrastructure that enables a strong ecosystem performance, therefore gifting people in high-density urban areas a priceless added value.
