This green roof was installed on an extension building of a hotel housing the hotel kitchens thus requiring a number of ventilation facilities on the rooftop. As this flat roof is visible from many of the hotel rooms, the option of creating a gravel roof was quickly ruled out for aesthetic reasons and the high visual impact. The management decided to have a green roof installed instead so that on the one hand the guests could enjoy the view from their hotel rooms and on the other hand to give continuity to the philosophy of the hotel chain, which had already planned to install large gardens and green areas in this hotel complex. Our "Heather with Lavender" green roof system with the Floradrain® FD 40-E drainage element, forms the ideal base for this build-up. It was installed over the entire roof surface, providing the plants with an optimum water/air balance.

The green roof of the Hotel Gran Playa de Palma is visible from many rooms. -
Some species are lavender, verbena, rosemary, sage and various varieties of grasses. -
The selected plants were chosen with respect to a high tolerance to water stress and solar radiation. -
The system build-up “Heather with Lavender” forms the ideal base for the mediterranean plants. -
The areas prepared for planting are separated by gravel paths.
