Project report

The waterproofing of the clubhouse of the Karlsruhe ice skating and tennis association had been tight for more than 50 years, but then the old gravel roof needed to be renewed. In search of an appropriate renovation solution for the approx. 235 m² area, the decision for a green roof was quickly made because it offered genuine added value beside a great look. Instead of a traditional extensive green roof a Biodiversity Green Roof was chosen to create the greatest possible biodiversity. In spring 2021 the installation started on a root resistant waterproofing. The first layer was the Protection Mat SSM 45. Then the drainage and water retention element Floradrain® FD 25-E was laid. It is the core of the ZinCo System Build-up. The drainage layer was covered by the Filter Sheet SF. The planning included several areas with different substrate depths ranging from 100–300 mm. The vegetation was installed by planting plug plants and sowing the ZinCo Seed Mixture “Bee Pasture“.
