Company building

The increase in rain events and flooding and a lowering of the water table are clear indicators that the ecology of the water cycle has been severely impaired as a result of climate change and the consistently high level of soil sealing. This is where green roofs come into play, providing additional green space in densely developed urban areas. Each green roof stores a certain quantity of stormwater and then allows it to run-off in a time delay or to evaporate on the roof.

The contemporary office complex "Green Place" is in the heart of Viale Certosa, the most important business district in the north of Milan. The "Green Place" is particularly appealing due to its roof garden, approx. 1,100 m² in size, around which the three office buildings are situated. The plant beds in a checkerboard pattern help to create the geometric image which has become a particular highlight thanks to the unique lighting concept used there.

Bird's eye view on the shopping and leisure zone

On around 10,000 m² Istanbul gains a green square in the midst of the new shopping and leisure zone.

In the city of Istanbul, an interface between Europe and Asia, the Zorlu Center exemplifies the new modern environmental and socioeconomic spirit. It is the first mixed-use large-scale project in Turkey that fulfills five functions: culture and convention centre (“PAC” Performing Arts Center), luxury hotel “Raffles”, shopping mall, extraordinary offices and exclusive living residences.

The High Line with adjacent buildings

It was once a run-down, dilapidated area.  Then came the flourishing vegetation that has transformed an entire district. The converted elevated train track, the High Line in New York, has become the main tourist attraction in the city. Since it was opened in 2009, more than 20 million people have visited the High Line, now accessible over a length of 2.4 km since the third phase was completed in September 2014. The 10 m to 20 m wide park wends its way like a catwalk from Gansevoort Street northwards to 34th Street, unfolding its captivating charm on the way.

Congress participants

With 500 participants, the 4th Congress issue was the most well attended event in IGRA history.

It was a Congress which has no equal. Superlative Green Roof projects, outstanding speakers, top-class presentations and an international collegial atmosphere made the two days at the 4th International Green Roof Congress in Istanbul from April 20–21, 2015 an industry highlight.

Roof garden of the Tivoli Congress Center

The garden area of the Tivoli Congress Center extends the existing pedestrian pathway to a total overall length of approx. 440 m.

A skerry is a small, flat and often rugged rock island typically found along the Baltic coast. And, the 8,000 m² roof garden of the Tivoli Hotels & Congress Center in Copenhagen actually does resemble these rocky reefs. This is due to the fact that the many plant beds with their irregular contours are located like islands in the middle of the extensive pathways. A unique lighting concept means that the elaborate roof garden is an attraction for hotel and congress guests and tourists to Copenhagen even at night-time.

Koe-Bogen, the luxury shopping and office mile in the heart of Duesseldorf, the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, is shaping the cityscape. It is not only the innovative design of this six-storey complex created by Daniel Libeskind that is extraordinary but also the fact that it has been awarded LEED Platinum Certification for sustainable building.

Roof slide on a green roof

The roof slide in the “Rasselbande” kindergarten in Erfurt/Germany is an added play option for the children.

In the “Rasselbande” kindergarten in Erfurt/Germany, a tube slide goes directly from the green roof down to the ground. Depending on the building and the design requirements, Zinco can provide various system build-ups for professional greening, including suitable railing solutions that can be installed without roof penetration.
The High Line, New York

New York's latest sight "High Line" emerged from the abandoned freight rail line – thanks to Zinco green roof systems.

Above the streets of Manhattan, tourists meander beside New York joggers along a densely planted trail. To the East, the view of the Hudson River is unimpeded and towards the West, the view is of the hustle and bustle of city life. This elevated park was formerly a freight rail line that was decommissioned in 1980 and forgotten about. However, thanks to an urban planning competition in 2001 that called for the redesign and retention of the New York “High Line”, for the past five years we have had the longest green roof in the world at 2.3 km, right in the heart of Manhattan.

The new Zinco system ”natureline“, the very first green roof system worldwide made from renewable resources, was awarded the GaLaBau Innovation Medal for 2014.
